About the photo: The photo shows my 1990 Subaru Liberty. There is a special parallel between Subarus and Solaris servers. Both perform at the top of their class. Both are exceptionally reliable, and can last over a decade without an upgrade (even if they ought to be upgraded). Both provide component status if you know where to look, yet they can be so reliable you forget how. And both start with the letter "S".

After writing tools such as the DTraceToolkit, I'm often asked to explain what performance metrics really mean. These have been written as a detailed reference for these metrics.
